The Journal of Open Research Software (JORS) features peer reviewed Software Metapapers describing research software with high reuse potential. We are working with a number of specialist and institutional repositories to ensure that the associated software is professionally archived, preserved, and is openly available. Equally importantly, the software and the papers will be citable, and reuse will be tracked.
JORS also publishes full-length research papers that cover different aspects of creating, maintaining and evaluating open source research software. The aim of the section is to promote the dissemination of best practice and experience related to the development and maintenance of reusable, sustainable research software.
The Journal of Open Research Software is seeking candidates to serve as additional Associate Editors, due to the increase in the volume of submissions to the journal.
The Journal of Open Research Software is a leading international, open-access, peer-reviewed journal that publishes Software Metapapers describing research software with high reuse potential as well as research papers on Issues in Research Software that cover different aspects of creating, maintaining and evaluating open source research software.
Associate Editors play a vital part in managing the review of submitted articles and, as part of the Editorial Board, provide input regarding the journal’s editorial content and policy. This is a great opportunity to contribute back to the community, interact with others in your field and gain recognition and visibility.
Candidates for Associate Editors should be actively working in an area where research software is used, however we do not require candidates to have a PhD or be based within a university.
Ideal candidates will have had experience in writing and reviewing research software papers. They should also be aware of the leading users and developers of research software in their field, as this will aid their ability to manage the review process. We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate that they have read or written a number of high quality research software papers, and gained a broad experience of the qualities that make a software (or data) paper useful.
Associate Editors should be able to devote the time and energy necessary to ensure that published articles are of the highest quality and provide useful information to the journal’s readers, and work with the Editor-in-Chief and their fellow Associate Editors to act as advocates for the journal.
We are seeking Associate Editors from all fields of research, however we are particularly seeking candidates with the following expertise or experience:
Candidates should send an email to N.ChueHong@software.ac.uk with the subject "Associate Editor Position" and the following information:
The deadline for applications is 31st August. Please note that this is a voluntary editorial position. The time commitment is not huge but also not trivial; associate editors are expected to handle 2-3 submissions per month for the journal (typically a few hours per month). Further information or answers to questions can be obtained from N.ChueHong@software.ac.uk, and further details about the journal can be found here.
The Journal of Open Research Software is published with the support of the Software Sustainability Institute, and the Editor-in-Chief is Neil Chue Hong.
